Energy Clearing Techniques for a Lighter, Brighter You!
Whether you’re aware of it or not, you are picking up and being influenced by energetic vibrations from your environment, from other people and from your thoughts and emotions. It’s very easy to pick up energy from others – if you’ve ever walked into a room full of tense, stressed-out people and pretty soon you were feeling tense and stressed-out too, you know exactly how other people’s energy affects you! To avoid being constantly under the influence of negative energy, do some energy clearing.
Why Energy Clearing is Important
Everything is energy – cars, buildings, people, thoughts and food are all energy. Together, these energies swirl around and influence each other. So, if you’re feeling “off” but can’t put your finger on the reason; or if you’re more tired than usual; or if your thoughts are scattered and you have difficulty expressing your thoughts, you are being influenced by energy around you.
Picking up negative energy that is not yours doesn’t do you any good. It’s the reason you don’t feel like yourself sometimes, or why you feel emotional, tired or down for no reason. You might feel mentally sluggish, or more forgetful than usual. You might not find it easy to be present (to the point of completely missing what someone is saying).
You can clear your energy, though, and restore your physical vitality, emotional stability and mental clarity. Energy clearing is something you can do every day, or whenever you feel the need to brighten your life up a bit. Since negative energy is dark and heavy, getting rid of it will make you feel light and airy!
Energy clearing can be done in a number of ways. Your consciousness can direct energy so by setting your intention to clear energy, and then taking steps to physically and spiritually do so, you can clear your space (both external and internal) very quickly. Simply pick a technique that resonates with you, and take the following steps:

1. Clean your space. More than anything, this will make you feel lighter and more free. Open your windows and let the air in. Vacuum, dust and otherwise remove dirt. Remember, dirt is energy and it is a very heavy, stagnant energy. Living in a clear, fresh home will do wonders for your personal energy!
2. Invite good energy to stay. Minimalist spaces has a certain appeal (less stuff = clearer energy) but be careful that the space isn’t so empty that every sound is amplified. Sound is energy too and it’s a great reminder that energy can get very fast and out of control in a room with nothing to ground it! Warm up and ground positive energy by adding earthy elements like wood and fabric.
3. Declutter and organize. Everything you own has an energetic signature or message. Wherever possible, keep items (including books) in cupboard where you can close the doors, to prevent energetic chaos. Get rid of anything that has negative memories, or things you don’t use that just take up energetic space. Make room for good energy!
4. Use your intention to move negative energy away from your living and work space. Use your imagination: imagine a dark room or space full of negative, chaotic energy. That’s the current state of things. Then, imagine a light, like a candle or light bulb, being turned on in that space. Allow the light to become brighter and brighter, filling all of the darkness with light.
5. Use music, incense, art, color and light to bring positive energy into a space. Choose whatever makes you happy – there are no rules except that YOU have to enjoy what you’re bringing in. Don’t listen to spiritual music if it drives you nuts and don’t put up spiritual or religious artifacts if they don’t resonate with you!
Tibetan bowls and chimes can introduce a pleasing, soothing, melodious sound. Use any kind of music that you like. The resonant quality of musical energy can completely change the ‘vibe’ in a space, in just minutes!

Energy Clearing Techniques for You
1. Get out into nature as often as you can, to clear out your personal energy. Be on the ground – natural ground, not pavement – as often as you can. Try to spend time near water and in the forest (or botanical garden, if you live in the city) as often as you can.
2. Walk barefoot as much as you can. Allow the nurturing energy of the Earth to come up through the soles of your feet.
3. Clear your energy with water. Water is an excellent conductor. Showers, baths or being near a large or fast-moving body of water will help clear your energy. Also, when you take a drink of water, be very aware of the thoughts you’re having just before and while you’re drinking. Think thoughts of love, and you will infuse that water with love (check out the work of Masaru Emoto, who performed experiments that showed the impact of energy such as music or thoughts on water). Drinking water full of love will clear your energy very quickly!
4. Clear your energy with real food! All processed food has a lot of heavy, industrial energy to it. Yuck! Your body and soul will be much happier with a diet of fresh, organic, natural foods.
5. Think positive! Always remember, like attracts like. Therefore, if you release negative energy but you keep thinking negative thoughts, it’s going to come right back to you. So the most important energy clearing you can do is in your mind, by controlling your thoughts! Controlling your thoughts is not easy, but you can learn to do it by meditating and silencing your mental chatter.
